Basement Pottery Studio
The client was getting frustrated with the basement chaos, and wanted a creative escape from daily chores.
Vision: A peaceful space to throw, glaze, and dry pottery away from laundry and household storage.
She needed more storage.
Could a scary root cellar be a solution?

The client wanted to use this space as her pottery studio. Too much stuff on this tool bench was rarely used.
There was no delineation between pottery, chore supplies, and random housewares.
My job was to help declutter, present new ideas, and make space.
We started by setting up zones, and decluttering in layers.
My favorite way to sort is with time stamps. Setting aside items for specific action 1, 2, 3 weeks from now.
Things she's keeping but needs to make a decision about later - with a deadline. This is why starting with a vision is so important. It lets us focus on the #1 priority to complete by the end of the first session.

Ahh! Floor space (aka negative space) to do things.
Under the stairs was a folding table full of old toys we needed to time sort. A teacher would take the toys in 2 weeks. The folding table can now be used for traveling pottery shows. And the hamper + drying rack could fit under the stairs.
Laundry + cleaning supplies organized in their own space!

Genius ideas that comes out of finding items that happen to work together. These plates need to dry vertically, and this rack was perfect!
